Singapore, 15
October, 2015 – Singtel has scored a double win – Frost & Sullivan’s 2015 Singapore Mobile Service Provider
and Telecom Service
Provider of the Year awards.
The wins are a recognition of the comprehensive services
that have helped
to keep Singtel in pole position in Singapore’s telecom industry.
Mr Yuen Kuan Moon,
Singtel’s CEO of Consumer Singapore said, “We are very pleased that our efforts to focus on the customer and meet their constantly evolving
telecom needs have been recognised. But we’re
not resting on our laurels. We
will continue to make significant investments in
network enhancements and service innovations. Our aim is to provide even better
quality coverage and more reliable, more seamless connectivity, especially indoors.”
Building a
next-generation 4G mobile network
Singtel’s on-going efforts to build a next-generation 4G mobile network has
meant more infrastructure upgrades to provide better surfing experiences
indoors. As customers increasingly consume more mobile data while commuting on
the MRT or shopping in malls,
deepening underground and indoor mobile coverage is a key component of the
enhancement plans.
Case in point: tri-band 4G LTE-900 technology was recently deployed
to improve coverage in indoor areas including the North-South and East-West
underground MRT stations. This
technology offers better signal penetration with 900 MHz on top of existing 1800 MHz
and 2600 MHz frequency bands, giving customers stronger and more
consistent connections. This technology is currently being rolled out in the
HDB estates of Punggol and Sengkang. By end 2015, this network upgrade will be
extended to more than 400 sites nationwide.
Singtel Premium WiFi has also been turned on at 44 MRT platforms and is available at over 600
hotspots to offer a more seamless surfing
experience. Launched to boost network
capacity in crowded areas, free unlimited access to
the high-speed service is available until end February 2016.
Additionally, voice calls were also given a boost when
Singtel made available its brand of VoLTE, 4G ClearVoice, to provide faster
call connections and superior call quality.
In the months ahead, the commercial roll out of HetNet
technology will be an integral part of efforts to improve network coverage and
connectivity. Currently, several small cells have already been installed at
high traffic locations such as Marina Bay Sands' basement food court, nex
shopping mall, VivoCity, Seletar Mall and Parkway Parade.
More than 100 buildings and outdoor areas across the island will be
equipped with the enhancement by the end of
2016.
Singtel has the most extensive network in Singapore.
According to IDA’s
reports, Singtel has had the nation’s widest
outdoor coverage1 for three consecutive quarters and the fastest 4G peak speed
downloads2 at
118.9Mbps. Earlier this year, Singtel also won Frost & Sullivan’s 2015 Asia Pacific LTE Provider of the Year.
