The legacy of Saint Patrick (approximately
385-481 AD ) is found, in part, in celebration of his Saint’s Day, which corresponds to the day of his
death, March 17. Originally, it was only celebrated in Ireland and was
considered a more somber day of remembrance than its modern incarnation.
This year St. Patrick’s Day was
much bigger and grander than last year. There were two stages located at each
ends of the street with the usual participating pubs and restaurants. As always, Guinness was the
official beer for the event. Thanks to Guinness Singapore, I was invited.
The march started from the Art
House. I can feel the massive crowd. This is the 10th year of
celebration in Singapore. It shows the closeness of the Irish community and
Singaporean in Singapore. The march passes the Asian Civilization Museum and
crosses the bridge and end at UOB Plaza. There were dance performances, singing
by various groups such as Irish Inspirational Dancers, The Disclaimers, Oli
& Ana, The Craic Horse, Seisiúnistas etc.
Family oriented activities such as face painting, balloon sculpting for both adults and children.

The Patron of the Parade was the
Ambassador of Ireland to SIngapore, his excellency Geoffrey Keating.
It was wonderful to witness such
closeness between the two countries through the annual St. Patrick’s Day event. We shall wait for 2016. Remember to join and have fun.
